Men's skin and hair through the years
Over time, you learn what suits you. A particular cut. A texture you enjoy using. A few products that earn their place. As skin and hair change, those preferences may evolve too.
Hormones play a part, alongside genetics, sun exposure and the passing years. Understanding their influence helps you choose care with a clear purpose, shaped around the skin and hair you have today.
The role of hormones
Men's skin is generally thicker and produces more oil than women's skin, although individual differences matter more than a broad description. Your skin may be oily, dry, sensitive or a combination of these.
Androgens, including testosterone, stimulate the skin's oil glands. Oiliness can persist as you get older, even when skin also needs more moisture.
As skin changes
Testosterone levels can decline gradually with age, but the pattern varies. Hormones are only part of the picture. Skin also changes through natural ageing and exposure to the sun, becoming less firm and sometimes drier.
A useful routine responds to what you notice: shine in some areas, tightness in others, or a texture that feels different. Gentle cleansing, suitable moisture and sun protection provide a considered foundation.
Hair and hormones
In hereditary male pattern hair loss, follicles are sensitive to dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, a hormone formed from testosterone. Over time, affected follicles produce finer hairs. This sensitivity does not necessarily mean you have high testosterone levels.
Thinning can change how a familiar style sits. A different cut, a lighter finish or a little volume at the roots may suit its new texture. The products here help with condition and appearance; they do not treat hereditary hair loss.
