When women's skin and hair begin to change

Our thoughts on caring for skin and hair through menopause

Perhaps it starts with your usual cream no longer feeling quite enough. Or your hair falling differently, even though you style it as you always have. Small changes can feel surprisingly personal when they alter something so familiar.

For us, beauty has always been closely connected to feeling like yourself. That is where we want to begin when we talk about menopause, too.

Start with how it feels

As oestrogen levels fluctuate and later decline, skin can become drier and more sensitive. Some women notice blemishes alongside the dryness. Hair may also feel finer or less full. Everyone experiences these changes differently.

Our instinct is to keep care simple. A gentle cleanser such as Gel Cleanser, moisture that leaves skin comfortable and daily sun protection form a good foundation. If skin feels tight soon after applying your cream, a layer of Moisture Boost Serum underneath can bring back a sense of comfort, or a richer texture may suit it better. If it feels sensitive, give it a little time before adding something new.

Hormonal blemishes can be particularly frustrating when skin also feels dry. Here, we would choose targeted care: Blemish Control Serum, with salicylic acid and niacinamide, on blemish-prone areas, alongside gentle moisturising care for the rest of the face, such as S.O.S Barrier Repair Cream.

The same thought extends beyond the face. Taking a moment to smooth cream over dry shins or massage it into your hands can be a small pleasure in an ordinary day.

Let your hair lead the way

With hair, we like to think about movement and feel. When the texture changes, our first step would be to protect and strengthen. A few sprays of BB Spray – Leave-In Primer, with peptides and collagen amino acids, through damp hair moisturises and strengthens each strand before you style. From there, a small adjustment to the cut or the way you style it can make a difference. Perhaps lighter conditioning, less heat or a little lift at the roots. There is room to try things and see what feels right.

You do not have to change everything at once. We would start with whatever bothers you most and make one thoughtful adjustment.

For us, a good ritual is one you enjoy returning to, with room to change as you do.
